Steves Stimme ist rau wie die Irische See. »Ich bin wahrscheinlich der älteste Coasteering-Guide Großbritanniens«, sagt der 50-Jährige, als wir in voller Montur zur Küste laufen, »und ich mache weiter, bis ich siebzig bin.« Er hat Schultern wie Felsen, kupferfarbene Haut, graue Stoppeln an Schädel und Kinn. Seine Augen sind hellblau, wie vom Salzwasser verwaschen. Sein alter Freund Grant sagt, man könne Steve in der tiefsten Wildnis aussetzen, ohne Proviant und Kompass, und er fände sich noch zurecht.
