Meine einsame Wanderung unterbrach plötzlich ein auf mich zurennendes weißes Kutschpferd, das ich vergeblich aufzuhalten versuchte; gleich darauf sahe [sic] ich weiter gehend ein zerbrochenes Wägelchen vor mir liegen und dann den Coachman schlummernd und blutend auf die Erde gestreckt. Der starke Geruch von Branntwein sprach deutlich die Ursache des Unglücks aus, und jenes Getränk, wiewohl es sehr theuer im Preise steht, richtet also auch hier sein Verderben an. (Brandes 53-4)
