Es war an einem Nachmittage des Sommers 1858, daß ich auf der Grasbank unter dem Schloßthurm von Conway in Wales saß. Auf derselben Bank hatte ich schon einmal gesessen. Zwei Jahre waren seitdem vergangen. In den zwei Jahren hatte ich nicht aufgehört, an Conway, an die Farm Wern, an seine lieben Bewohner, an Alles zu denken, was mir in Wales theuer und unvergeßlich worden war. (Rodenberg 3)
